Graphic User Interface to interrogate a database

GUI is the term for a web page or page on a local network that a user can use to call up data from a database, report previous events and issue instructions to other users, programmes or machines.

We create GUIs from your raw database guided by your needs. For example you may have a database of customers. A GUI is used in a Customer Relations Management programme to draw up the information that the operator needs to service the customer call.

The database stores the data and the changes and the user interface enables the data to be seen in a clear graphic display that may be touch or key stroke driven.

An example is shown below where the data is being drawn from a database of consumer files that are processed by operatives in a large organisation.

The wider definition of the term of a graphical user interface (GUI, sometimes pronounced gooey) is a type of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices with images rather than text commands. GUIs can be used in computers, hand-held devices such as MP3 players, portable media players or gaming devices, household appliances and office equipment . A GUI represents the information and actions available to a user through graphical icons and visual indicators such as secondary notation, as opposed to text-based interfaces, typed command labels or text navigation. The actions are usually performed through direct manipulation of the graphical elements.

The term GUI is historically restricted to the scope of two-dimensional display screens with display resolutions able to describe generic information, in the tradition of the computer science research at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). The term GUI earlier might have been applicable to other high-resolution types of interfaces that are non-generic, such as video games, or not restricted to flat screens, like volumetric displays.

Internet Assets works with database GUIs that draw from MySQL and equivalents for webpages.
